Cell phones play a large role in the polluting of our waste stream. They contain many toxic chemicals such as arsenic, lead and zinc. They also contain substances that have been linked to many different health problems.
With the amount of cell phones being used nationally and worldwide (over 2.2 billion), this has become a global threat to our environment. On average, cellular users replace their cell phones every 12 months. This puts 2.2 billion cell phones potentially into our waste stream.
Cellular Challenge is a global-wide initiative to decrease the amount of cellular phones disposed of into our landfills annually.
